Typing Spanish Diacritical Marks on Windows Keyboards

Typing Spanish Diacritical Marks on Windows Keyboards You can type in Spanish on Microsoft Windows machines- complete with accented letters and inverted punctuation- even if youre using a keyboard that shows English characters only. There are essentially three approaches to typing Spanish in Windows. First, use the international keyboard configuration that is part of Windows, best for if you frequently type in Spanish. Alternatively, you can use built in character maps. Finally, you can use some awkward key combinations if you have only the occasional need, if youre at an Internet cafà ©, or if youre borrowing someone elses machine. Tips If you often type in Spanish in Microsoft Windows, you should  install the international keyboard software that is part of Windows and use the right Alt key for the Spanish symbols. If the keyboard software isnt available, you can use the character map app to individually select the letters and special characters you need. The numeric keypad on a full-size keyboard can also be used for Spanish characters using Alt codes. Configuring the International Keyboard Windows XP: From the main Start menu, go to the Control Panel and click on the Regional and Language Options icon. Select the Languages tab and click the Details... button. Under Installed Services click Add... Find the United States-International option and select it. In the pull-down menu, select United States-International as the default language. Click OK to exit the menu system and finalize the installation.Windows Vista: The method is very similar to that for Windows XP. From the Control Panel, select Clock, Language and Region. Under Regional and Language Options, pick Change keyboard or other input method. Select the General tab. Under Installed Services click Add... Find the United States-International option and select it. In the pull-down menu, select United States-International as the default language. Click OK to exit the menu system and finalize the installation.Windows 8 and 8.1: The method is similar to that for earlier versions of Windows. From the Control Panel, sel ect Language. Under Change your language preferences, click on Options to the right of the already installed language, which will probably be English (United States) if youre from the U.S. Under Input method, click on Add an input method. Select United States-International. This will add the international keyboard to a menu located at the lower right of the screen. You can use the mouse to choose between it and the standard English keyboard. You can also switch keyboards by pressing the Windows key and the space bar simultaneously. Windows 10: From the Ask me anything search box in the lower left, type Control (without the quotes) and launch the Control Panel. Under Clock, Language, and Region, select Change input methods. Under Change your language preferences, you will likely see English (United States) as your current option. (If not, adjust the following steps accordingly.) Click on Options to the right of the language name. Click on Add an input method and choose United States-International.  This will add the international keyboard to a menu  located at the lower right of the screen. You can use the mouse to choose between it and the standard English keyboard. You can also switch keyboards by pressing the Windows key and the space bar simultaneously. International Symbols on the Right Alt Key The easier  of the two available ways of using the international keyboard involves pressing the right Alt key (the key labeled Alt or sometimes AltGr on the right side of the keyboard, usually to the right of the space bar) and then another key simultaneously. To add the accents to the vowels, press the right Alt key at the same time as the vowel. For example, to type , press the right Alt key and the A at the same time. If youre capitalizing to make , youll have to press three keys simultaneously- A, right Alt, and shift. The method is the same for the à ±, n with the tilde. Press the right Alt and the n at the same time. To capitalize it, also press the shift key. To type the à ¼, youll need to press right Alt and the Y key. The inverted question mark ( ¿) and inverted exclamation point ( ¡) are done similarly. Press right Alt and the 1 key (which also is used for the exclamation point) for the inverted exclamation point. For the inverted question mark, press right Alt and /, the question mark key, at the same time. The only other special character used in Spanish but not English are the angular quotation marks ( « and  »). To make those, press the right Alt key and either bracket key [ or ] to the right of the P simultaneously. Special Characters Using Sticky Keys The sticky keys method can be used to make accented vowels, too. To make an accented vowel, press , the single-quote key (usually to the right of ; the semicolon), and then release it and type the vowel. To make à ¼, press the shift and quote keys (as if you were making , a double quote) and then, after releasing, type the u. Because of the stickiness of the quote key, when you type a quote mark, initially nothing will appear on your screen until you type the next character. If you type anything other than a vowel (which will show up accented), the quote mark will appear followed by the character you just typed. To type a quote mark, youll need to press the quote key twice. Note that some word processors or other software may not let you use the key combinations of the international keyboard because they are reserved for other uses. Typing Spanish Without Reconfiguring the Keyboard If you have a full-size keyboard, Windows has two ways to type almost any character, as long as it exists in the font you are using. You can type in Spanish this way without having to set up the international software, although both options are cumbersome. If youre using a laptop, you may be limited to the first method below. Character Map: Access character map, access the start menu and type charmap in the search box. Then select the charmap program in the search results. If character map is available in the regular menu system, you can also select it that way. From there, click on the character you want, then click Select, then Copy. Place your cursor in your document by clicking where you wish the character to appear, and then paste the character into your text by pressing CtrlV, or right clicking and selecting Paste from the menu.Numeric Keypad: Windows allows the user to type any available character, including diacritical marks, by holding down one of the Alt keys while typing in a numeric code on the numeric keypad, if one is available. For example, to type the em dash (- ), hold down Alt while typing 0151 on the numeric keypad. Alt codes only work on the numeric keypad, not with the number row above the letters. Character Alt Code 0225 0193 à © 0233 É 0201 à 0237 à 0205 à ± 0241 Ñ 0209 à ³ 0243 Ó 0211 à º 0250 Ú 0218 à ¼ 0252 ÃÅ" 0220  ¿ 0191  ¡ 0161  « 0171  » 0187 - 0151

Brahms Requiem - Assignment Example Brahms was highly influenced and affected by his mother and friend’s death and he thought that there was need to perform a requiem mass to console those who were grieving and also to let the dead lie peacefully. As a matter of fact this German artist felt that he had to pay tribute to his benefactor Robert Schumann (Musgrave 5) so that he could always feel him around and have his musical memories as well as the memories of his mother. Franco-Prussian war ended in 1866. This war is believed to have influenced Brahms to compose his requiem to fare well the war’s victims and console the affected souls. There are also several events that happened believed to have influence his composition without any one of them being the exact or main reason behind the requiem but they are said to be the forces behind Brahms requiem. Comparison of Brahms Requiem in line with classical music Brahms requiem was believed to be lengthy and full of empty passages but compared to other performances by different artists, it is so classical and of good quality (Musgrave 8). The slow piano playing makes the message being conveyed to be received as intended and this also makes it perfect for such performances to take place at Ellen Eccles.

The analyses here were conducted to determine whether Andrew Msami is a good leader informing areas of growth for his future practices as a leader. Lastly, Chapter four coins out the conclusions and recommendations for Andrew Msami leadership based on the discussion of findings in chapter three. CHAPTER2 GOOD LEADERS: LITERATURE REVIEW Leadership Leadership is the process that enhances the ability to identify and manage changes leading organizations to success. Jacobson defines leadership as moving organization out of the box so that it is able to sustain forces of change that challenges its long term existence. According to Drucker[2], the very best leaders are first and foremost effective managers. Leadership identifies and guide the way to success. Management then defines and implements the how to success. Drucker further contend that those who seek to lead but fail to manage will become either irrelevant or dangerous not only to the organization but to the society. A leader without the support of management in the form of Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Directing, Coordinating, Reporting and Budgeting (POSCoRB)[3] functions, finds it difficult to achieve desired future. Unless the desired future is effectively managed, it is likely that little will be achieved in terms of goals and objectives set through good leaders. The leaders see the horizon but unless something is properly done within the present, and that must be informed by guidance offered by the leader then the future is blurred. Blanchard et al were correct to say that â€Å"in managing people it is easier to loosen up than tighten up†[4] Although am aware that people cannot be managed, in some respect and from management point of view we cannot divorce from the fact that people to some extent need to be managed. People are an important resource for any organization to be led rather than managed. Unless expectations are set right and guided from the beginning with constant monitoring, supportive leadership and management, changing the undesired culture within the organization due to misplaced leadership and management, to re-align people to new thinking and ways of doing the right things is a difficult pre-occupation. Leaders as Learners The very best leaders are learners; it is true that once you stop learning you stops leading[5]. I am yet to find out whether I am leading based on my ever quest for learning. Ever since I knew a book I kept on learning and he moment I find myself in an environment that cannot allow me to learn I quit. â€Å"When you stop learning you stop developing and you stop growing†¦ and that is the end of a leader†[6] I always search for new knowledge which can only be found in an environment that permits learning to happen. Here is a paradox, to be a leader you need to keep on learning, but it is equally true that â€Å"quitters never win and winners never quit†[7]. As long as effective leadership is supported by a learning environment that generate new knowledge and open up opportunities to test the workability of the knowledge leadership and those seeking to lead can thrive. I believe there is no harm in quitting so as finding an environment where one will be able to learn and continue being a leader. What I am trying to suggest here is that my quitting is focused at positioning myself to continue wining. Competition in the contemporary world is immensely stiff and a competitive edge is earned through learning. Eric Hoffer once said â€Å"in times of change learners inherit the earth while the learned find themselves beautifully equipped for a world that no longer exists. †[8] Unless one will constantly study and practice[9] one will easily become irrelevant. Thus quitting workplaces that does not support studying and practicing of new knowledge is not a place for learners but rather for the learned. If those places can be transformed into learning organization fine but if they cannot one should not waste his time and energy in such environment. Leaders and Legacy Good leaders leave a positive legacy: According to Munkumba leaders must leave a legacy for which people will remember them once they are gone. He further challenged leaders that if they want something one never had, one must do something he or she never did[10]. A leader must always find new ideas and turn them into realities. Brooks defines leadership legacy as the sum total of the difference one makes in other people’s life, directly or indirectly, formally or informally. To leave a positive legacy, Brooks suggest that a leader must be able to control his or her relationship as well as how he or she does things now. Today’s leader’s relations and actions determine his future and what he will be remembered for. Leaders Supports Good leaders are supportive. Leaders have great responsibilities in helping their people achieve goals and objectives set by the organization. A leader can only be successful if people under him or her are successful. The mutual relationship between subordinates’ success and success of the leaders call leaders to tirelessly provide the needed support for their subordinates to successes. Leaders and Decision Making Good leaders are decisive, they identify problems and opportunities resolve and take advantage of them. A leader careful makes a choice from available alternatives to inform the decision to be made, given the consequences that each decision made might bring, often leaders fail to make decisions due to fear of failure. A good leader thus is the one who has the courage to popular and unpopular decisions. A decision postponed or delayed is a problem deferred and an opportunity lost, effective leaders cannot afford that. A leader should be able to create a system that support quick and effective decision making processes to keep the organization rolling. This will be done by development of criteria for testing or informing any decision to be made, to check whether it fit with; organization goals, values, achievement of desired results, resources allotted and prospects for success. Servant Leadership Good leaders are servant leaders: leadership means services to others. Servant leaders are supportive and participative. Servant leaders are social democrats; they are there to meet needs of their followers through involvement and provision of the needed assistance. A biblical image of a servant leader is the one that mirrors a shepherd who is there for the sake of his or her flock and not the flock for the shepherd. In John chapter 10: 11 â€Å"†¦. a good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep†[11] this quality of leaders are difficult to find. There would have been no leadership gaps in households, firms, communities and nations if most of us who are leaders today would have been able to give up our time, resources, knowledge, for the would be future leaders. Current shepherds are so selfish herding the flock into destruction. Once a self-seeking shepherd is no more, emerges a new shepherd from the scattered flock, without skills leading the flock to nowhere, the curse continues. Autobiography – creative writing

I was riding my bike chasing my mate like any 11year old kid dose when disaster strikes. It all started on a sunny Saturday morning when my friend Paul knocks at my house he said get your bike so I ask my mum if I could take it out, bad decision. So I went out, about four hours later Paul decides he wants to tease me so me being me couldn't ignore him and chased him on my bike. I was just about to catch him when I went over a curb. The bike and me flew up in the air and somersaulted, I landed headfirst on to concrete then the bike fell on top of me, I screamed in pain Paul turned round and looked in shock for a few seconds. After he realised what had happened he ran in to get his mum. We lived close so when his mum came out he ran and got my mum & dad. Paul's mum came and put a pillow under my head by this time I was all most asleep. Every time I went to fall asleep Paul's mum said, â€Å"wake up wake up†. My dad came running down while my mum rang for an ambulance for about ten minutes before the ambulance came they tried to keep me awake. When it finally came I blacked out. I have not got a clue what happened in the ambulance or when I got out of it. When I finally woke up it was about 4:30 p. m. , I still had not been seen by a doctor. When I did see a doctor he said that he would have to glue my head . I thought to myself â€Å"glue† I mean when you crack your head open you would think that you'd have stitches not glue. When he come back he said he would have to cut my hair . I thought to myself â€Å"first I crack my head open then I find out my head has to be glued and now I have to have my hair cut things could not get any worse. † So I had my hair cut & head glued . By this time it was 6:30pm almost 4 hours after I did my flip on my bike and by this time I was absolutely exhausted I had been thought a lot in one day.

The Difference Between Deflagration and Detonation

The Difference Between Deflagration and Detonation Combustion (burning) is a process by which energy is released. Deflagration and detonation are two ways energy may be released. If the combustion process propagates outward at subsonic speeds (slower than the speed of sound), its a deflagration. If the explosion moves outward at supersonic speeds (faster than the speed of sound), its detonation. While the action of deflagration is to push the air in front it, objects do not explode because the rate of combustion is relatively slow. Because the action of detonation is so rapid, however, detonations result in shattering or pulverizing objects in their path. Deflagration The definition of deflagration, according  to the Collins Dictionary is a fire in which a flame travels rapidly, but at subsonic speed, through a gas.  Deflagration  is an explosion in which the speed of burning is lower than the speed of sound in the surroundings. Everyday fire and most controlled explosions are examples of deflagration. The flame propagation velocity is less than 100 meters per second (usually much lower), and the overpressure is less than 0.5 bar. Because it is controllable, deflagration can be harnessed to do work. Examples of deflagrations include: internal combustion engine (used in any vehicle that uses fossil fuels such as gasoline, oil, or diesel fuel)gas stove (fueled with natural gas)fireworks and other pyrotechnicsgunpowder in a firearm Deflagration burns outward radially and requires fuel to spread. Thus, for example, a wildfire starts with a single spark and then expands in a circular pattern if there is fuel available. If there is no fuel, the fire simply burns out. The speed at which deflagration moves depends upon the quality of the available fuel. Detonation The word detonation means to thunder down, or explode. When a decomposition reaction or combination reaction releases a lot of energy in a very short span of time, an explosion may occur.  A detonation is a dramatic, often destructive form of an explosion. It is characterized by a supersonic exothermic front (in excess of 100 m/s up to 2000 m/s) and significant overpressure (up to 20 bars). The front drives a shockwave ahead of it. Although technically a form of oxidation reaction, a detonation doesnt require combination with oxygen. Unstable molecules release considerable energy when they split and recombine into new forms. Examples of chemicals that produce detonations include any high explosives, such as: TNT (trinitrotoluene)nitroglycerinedynamitepicric acidC4 Detonations, of course, can be used in explosive weapons such as nuclear bombs. They are also (in a much more controlled manner) in mining, road construction, and the destruction of buildings or structures.   Deflagration to Detonation Transition In some situations, a subsonic flame may accelerate into a supersonic flame. This deflagration to detonation is difficult to predict but occurs most often when eddy currents or other turbulence are present in the flames. This can happen if the fire is partially confined or obstructed. Such events have occurred in industrial sites where extremely combustible gasses have escaped, and when ordinary deflagration fires encounter explosive materials.

Data Fusion and Data Mining Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Data Fusion and Data Mining - Research Paper Example Every day millions of data are being transmitted by the use of local area networks and the Internet. Aware of the voluminous demand for data storage, computer manufacturing firms regularly innovate file storage devices. They introduce new and more "intelligent" devices and gadgets to cope with this ever-escalating demand for storing and retrieving data.  Despite their success in solving the data storage problem, companies are still hoping to use technologies that will provide them clear information on what really is going on in their businesses. Storing and retrieving myriad chunks of data are not enough to solve pressing business problems. Businessmen need useful information out of these.  Owning data warehouses have partially solved this problem. A data warehouse is used to consolidate data found in different databases. This makes millions of data easily retrieved, interpreted, sorted and accessible by analysts. Though this device largely helps analysts, sorting and storing dat a are not enough to make most out of these data. They still cannot provide us with a clear picture of what is really going on in the firm and in the market (Alexander, n.d.).  Turning numerous data into significant information is the aim of one of the latest technological breakthroughs in computers known as data fusion and data mining. These technologies enable firms to automatically search millions of data that they receive every day "for patterns using tools such as classification, association rule mining, clustering, etc. (Data Mining, 2007)." Data fusion is the method of integrating "diverse data into a single, coherent representation of the tactical, operational or strategic situation (Cyr, 2006)." We can say that data fusion is the first step in data mining. To find patterns, one should consolidate huge chunks of data to find out their similarities. This is exactly what data fusion is doing. Data mining divulges strategically hidden patterns found in huge amounts of data usi ng high-end data analysis methods. It discovers new knowledge instead of testing assumptions that are suggested by users, which are being used by other business intelligence technologies (Sentient Information Systems, n.d.). It is an automated technology that allows exploration, analysis, and visualization of data of very large databases. Having the power to extract novel, implicit and actionable knowledge from large datasets, data mining is used for the discovery of non-obvious and finding out information and knowledge that can develop business processes. Having powerful capabilities makes data mining a very useful tool in business. It is used in sales/marketing, customer retention, buyer behavior, costing, quality control, inventory, and fraud (Williams, Hegland, and Roberts 1998).

The evacuation from Saigon led to clearing of and falls in Phnom Penh paved way for a more ruthless Khmer Rouge that led to the ruthless genocide in which a lot of people lost their lives (Dawn, Remsing, Hmong Folklore). The film tried to preserve the historical accuracy and ideologies and the portrayal of events as they happened. A lot is learned from the film, even though, the producers skipped some issues that occurred. They try to keep the most important issues like cultures to give the film the touch of Cambodia setting and portray the genocide picture in a clear way especially when panic and desperation arises when violence breaks out. This is an American film that talks about Hmong American community and a retired auto worker Walt Kowalski. Kowalski is a lonely man since his children do not really care about him.
